ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon volleyball team begins its quest for a national championship Thursday, November 29 when it faces crosstown rival Mercyhurst during the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
Wheeling Jesuit will serve as the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional host. The Gannon-Mercyhurst contest will be the rivals' second postseason match-up this season after the Lady Knights swept the Lakers during the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Quarterfinals.

Gannon-Mercyhurst History
Gannon leads the all-time series 35-23. The two teams split the 2012 regular-season series, before the Lady Knights swept the Lakers 3-0 during the PSAC Quarterfinals. The regular season included a Mercyhurst 3-0 sweep at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center on October 9 and a Gannon 3-1 win at the Hammermill Center on November 2. The Lady Knights have won 10 of the last 15 encounters since 2006, including five straight home wins. Thursday's meeting will be the first-ever meeting in the NCAA Division II Tournament. Gannon's sweep in the conference quarterfinals was the first postseason meeting ever between the two programs.
Gannon NCAA Division II Tournament History
Gannon will be making its 10th NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. The Lady Knights will be playing in their fourth consecutive national tournament and can tie the school record for consecutive NCAA berths with another appearance next season. The school record is five from 1991-95. Gannon last won a regional in 1993 when it captured the NCAA Division II East Regional. It was the last of three consecutive regional titles and NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearances.
