The Gannon football team will play a road game for the first time in nearly a month Saturday, October 1 when it travels to rival Mercyhurst. Game time at Tullio Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Gannon brings a 1-3 overall record and 0-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division mark into Saturday's contest. The Golden Knights have possession of the Niagara Cup following a 14-10 victory against Mercyhurst last season at Gannon University Field.
Jason Ladouceur caught a 73-yard touchdown pass from
Zach Boedicker with 2:01 left in regulation to capture the victory.
Mercyhurst is among others receiving votes in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) national rankings after being ranked in the top 25 earlier in the season. The Lakers are 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC Western Division after last week's 42-3 victory at Lock Haven.
Senior defensive lineman
Randy Colling leads the PSAC and ranks fourth among all NCAA Division II players in sacks per game (1.5). True freshman
Justin Caliste is the PSAC's best and nation's fourth-best punt returner with 26.2 yards per return.
The Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority (EMTA) will be offering free rides to the game for all Gannon students. Buses will pick up students promptly at 11:30 a.m. under the Gannon arch on Seventh Street between Peach and Sassafras Streets. EMTA will return students to campus directly following the conclusion of the game.
