WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The No. 8 West Chester women's lacrosse team scored on seven of its first 10 shots and rolled to an 18-5 victory against No. 9 Gannon Friday afternoon in a rematch of the 2010 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) semifinals.
West Chester, which rallied for 19-18 victory in last year's conference final four, took firm control of Friday's match from the onset. The Golden Rams scored 1:18 into the contest en route to a 7-0 lead. The home squad won five of the first seven draw controls and out-shot Gannon 10-1 during the opening nine minutes and 40 seconds.
Following West Chester's seventh goal, Gannon finally got on the board when
Jess Fugate (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) won the draw control and scored unassisted seven seconds later.
It didn't seem to faze West Chester though as the Golden Rams immediately rolled off seven more goals for a 14-1 advantage.
Sarah Grzybinski's (New Market, Md./Linganore) goal with 3:55 showing on the clock capped the first-half scoring, sending the Lady Knights to the break with a 14-2 deficit.
In all, West Chester out-shot Gannon 22-6 and won 12 of 17 draw controls in the first half. Gannon had scoring droughts of 9:40, 16:25 and 3:55.
The second half was played on more even terms as West Chester out-scored Gannon by a slight 4-3 margin. Fugate,

Rachel DerCola (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) netted goals for the Lady Knights in the second half.
Fugate finished with two of Gannon's five goals. DerCola recorded one goal and dished out one assist. Grzybinski and Neagle added one goal each.
