ERIE, Pa. – Gannon's
Randy Colling (Arcade, N.Y./Pioneer) has been named to the Daktronics Football All-Super Region One first team released Wednesday afternoon.
Colling was one of three defensive linemen named to the first team, earning all-region accolades for the third consecutive season. He will now move to the national ballot for all-america consideration.
A 2011 Consensus Draft Services (CDS) Division II Preseason All-America selection, Colling previously earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) first-team honors for the third consecutive season. The senior defensive tackle was second among PSAC players with 21.5 tackles for a loss that resulted in minus 89 yards. He recorded 88 tackles (39 solo, 49 assisted), nine sacks that resulted in a loss of 59 yards, two blocked kicks, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. His sack total was the second-highest single-season mark in school history and his tackles for a loss total fell just one-half shy of the school's single-season record.
Colling ranked third among PSAC players in sacks and eighth in tackles per game (8.0). He ranks sixth among all NCAA Division II players in tackles for a loss per game (1.95) and 23rd in sacks per game (0.82).
The Arcade, N.Y., native will go down as one of the best defensive lineman in school history. He concluded his collegiate career second all-time at Gannon in career sacks (25) and 12th in tackles (220). His 48 career tackles for a loss were 6.5 shy of the school record.
Gannon completed the 2011 season with a 4-7 overall record, finishing fifth in the PSAC Western Division with a 3-4 mark. The Golden Knights defeated 2009 PSAC Champion Shippensburg and 2010 PSAC Champion Mercyhurst during the 2010 campaign. The program added another victory this season against Mercyhurst, as well as one against 2011 conference finalist Slippery Rock.
