The Gannon football team concludes a brief two-game road swing Saturday, October 29 at Clarion. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Golden Knights will be looking to even the all-time series against the Golden Eagles at two.
Gannon (3-5, 2-3) is coming off a 35-7 loss at Indiana (Pa.) last Saturday on the road. The Crimson Hawks scored two touchdowns in the first 10 minute en route to the victory.
Lawrence Coleman (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) caught a seven-yard touchdown pass with 6:05 left in the fourth quarter for Gannon's only score. The senior wideout now has five touchdown receptions this season, leaving him two shy of Pat Cain's school record of seven set during the 2003 campaign.
The Gannon defensive line continues to be among the region's best. Gannon ranks second among PSAC teams in sacks (25), behind only C.W. Post's 31 sacks.
Randy Colling (Arcade, N.Y./Pioneer) leads the conference in sacks per game (1.06) and ranks third in tackles for a loss per game (1.94). The senior defensive lineman is listed eighth nationally in both categories. He ranks second all-time at Gannon with 24.5 career sacks, needing four to tie Mitchell Hanlon's (2001-05) school record of 28.5 quarterback takedowns. He also has 8.5 sacks this season, leaving him 2.5 shy of David Leven's school record of 11 in 1994.
Clarion rides a two-game losing streak into Saturday's contest. The Golden Eagles have dropped consecutive games to Indiana (Pa.) (38-7) and Edinboro (21-10) following a 54-6 home victory against Lock Haven. The verdict represents Clarion's only win of the season. The Golden Eagles rank second in the league in punt return average (16.1) and third in rushing offense (204.1).
Gannon trails the all-time series 2-1, dropping the last two games. After a 31-24 victory at Gannon University Field in 2008, the Golden Knights fell by a 42-21 score on the road in 2009 and an 11-10 count at home in 2010.
