Gannon Football Team Attempts to Defeat IUP for Third Consecutive Time Saturday on The Road; Papson and Kiernan Preview Interviews Available Online

Redshirt freshman Ty Watson has led Gannon to a 1-1 record during his first two career starts.

The Gannon football team begins a brief two-game road swing Saturday, October 22 at Indiana (Pa.). Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Golden Knights will be looking to even their overall record at 4-4 with a victory.

Gannon (3-4, 2-2)  is already even in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division with a 2-2 mark, following a 37-13 victory against Lock Haven last Saturday at Gannon University Field. The Golden Knights blocked two punts, forced fumbles two more times before the punter could get the kick off and returned an interception for a touchdown during the rout. The squad moved to 4-0 all-time against the Bald Eagles, producing a 132-20 scoring edge in those games.

The Gannon defensive line continues to be among the region's best. Gannon ranks second among PSAC teams in sacks (24), behind only C.W. Post's 28 sacks. Randy Colling (Arcade, N.Y./Pioneer) leads the conference in sacks per game (1.21) and ranks second in tackles for a loss per game (2.21). The senior defensive lineman is listed fifth nationally in tackles for a loss and sixth in sacks. He ranks second all-time at Gannon with 24.5 career sacks, needing four to tie Mitchell Hanlon's (2001-05) school record of 28.5 quarterback takedowns. He also has 8.5 sacks this season, leaving him 2.5 shy of David Leven's school record of 11 in 1994.

Indiana (Pa.) rides a three-game winning streak into Saturday's contest. The Crimson Hawks are coming off consecutive victories against Edinboro (19-0), Mercyhurst (35-28 in overtime) and Clarion (38-7). Under first-year head coach Curt Cignetti, the squad is 3-1 in PSAC Western Division play behind only Slippery Rock's undefeated conference slate. The Crimson Hawks lead the conference in net punting (36.4) and kickoff coverage (42.2 net average).

Gannon leads the all-time series 2-1, winning the last two games. After a 35-10 IUP victory at Gannon University Field in 2008, the Golden Knights have returned the favor with a 29-3 road victory in 2009 and a 45-17 win last season at home.
