ERIE, Pa. - Zach Krise rushing for 184 yards and accounted for three touchdowns as East Stroudsburg won a 38-21 offensive shoot-out against Gannon Saturday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) football crossover game at Gannon University Field.
The second quarter was the decisive frame as East Stroudsburg out-scored Gannon 21-7. Following a Gannon touchdown 6:03 into the game, the Warriors rolled off three consecutive touchdowns to assume a 21-7 lead.
Krise scored the first two of those touchdowns, scoring on a three-yard run and 14-yard reception. Jordan Hallman's 32-yard touchdown catch from Matt Marshall put East Stroudsburg up by 14 points 1:53 into the second quarter.
Gannon initially opened a 7-0 lead after the Golden Knights gained possession at the ESU eight-yard line following a bad snap on a punt attempt.
Jon Richardson (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) found paydirt on the next play.
Head coach Jim Kiernan's squad cut the deficit to seven points twice.
Tyler Batts' (Homestead, Pa./Penn-Trafford) 42-yard run with 11:08 left in the second quarter brought the Golden Knights within a score, but Marshall's third touchdown pass of the half with 1:08 remaining until the intermission gave the visitors a 28-14 lead at the break.
Gannon rallied again when Richardson scored on a one-yard run with 3:01 showing on the third-quarter clock. However, Krise answered 1:34 later with his third rushing touchdown of the night, an 18-yard run with 1:27 left in the third period. ESU tacked on a field goal in the fourth frame to account for the final 38-21 score.
East Stroudsburg out-gained Gannon 456-270, including a 269-120 edge in passing yards. Richardson led the Gannon attack with 113 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. The senior tailback recorded his ninth 100-yard game and became the sixth player in school history to rush for 2,000 yards. He finished the game with 2,089 career yards. Richardson also became the fifth player in school history to accumulate over 3,000 career all-purpose yards. He now has 3,024 career all-purpose yards.
Zach Boedicker (Northfield, Ohio/Nordonia) was 10-of-23 for 120 yards through the air.
Corey Bradley (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) led the receivers with four catches for 39 yards.
Matthew Neal-Mink (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) led all tacklers with 14 stops, including 10 solo tackles.
Khayree Connors-McChristian (Sicklerville, N.J./Winslow Township) added 13 tackles.
Gannon dropped 1-1 while East Stroudsburg remained undefeated at 2-0. The Golden Knights conclude their season-opening three-game homestand Saturday, September 12 against Cheyney. The last night game of the season is scheduled for 6 p.m.
