Gannon Football Team Falls at 21st-Ranked Edinboro

Jeremy Ditzler kicked his PSAC-leading ninth field goal against Edinboro.
EDINBORO, Pa. - The Gannon football team continued its up-and-down season Saturday afternoon with a 40-3 loss at 21st-ranked Edinboro. The setback in front of 6,193 Edinboro homecoming fans extended Gannon's streak of alternating victories and losses to six weeks as the Golden Knights have not won or lost two games in a row this season.

Following a scoreless first quarter, Gannon grabbed the contest's first lead when Jeremy Ditzler (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) kicked a 35-yard field goal with 9:57 remaining in the second quarter.

However, Edinboro then rolled off 40 unanswered points en route to the 40-3 victory. Ulysee Davis scored the first touchdown from 21 yards out, before Trevor Harris connected with Rich Cerro on a seven-yard scoring pass with 45 ticks left on the first-half clock.

The home squad added two touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters to account for the final score. The Fighting Scots had one PAT blocked and a bad snapped forced a failed PAT rushing attempt in the second half.

Edinboro held advantages in first downs (23-10), total yards (395-163), rushing yards (193-84), passing yards (202-79), and possession time (34:56-25:04).

Jon Richardson (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding), who entered the game as the PSAC's leading-rusher, was held 76.5 yards below his average. The junior led the Gannon ground game with 57 yards on 17 carries.

The Gannon quarterback duo of Bob Bartley (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) and Zach Boedicker (Northfield, Ohio/Nordonia) combined to go 7-of-25 for 79 yards and three interceptions.

Chris Cook (Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw) headlined the defensive unit with eight tackles. Matthew Neal-Mink (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) added six tackles, including one and one-half for a loss.

Gannon dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division with Saturday's loss. Edinboro improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in PSAC West play. The Golden Knights return to action Saturday, October 11 against Mercyhurst at Gannon University Field. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
