Nate Ross became Gannon's first wrestling regional champion since 2012 when he captured the 165-pound title at last weekend's NCAA Division II Super Regional One hosted by Pitt-Johnstown. The redshirt senior was undefeated in four matches, defeating several ranked wrestlers along the way. Wrestling for the first time in 41 days, he began the regional with a 12-3 major decision against Shippensburg's Abner Thompson (12-3) and pin of the region's fourth-ranked wrestler Anthony Dailey of Notre Dame (Ohio) in two minutes and 54 seconds. Ross followed with wins against the region's top-two wrestlers during the final day. He defeated East Stroudsburg's Michael Raccioppi 12-8 during the semifinals. Raccioppi is ranked No. 1 in the region and No. 6 in NCAA Division. Ross then finished off his championship run with a 6-4 decision against Pitt-Johnstown's Devin Austin, who is ranked No. 2 in the region and No. 9 in NCAA Division II. Entering the regional unranked, Ross qualified for his second career national championship appearance.
