Cardy led the Gannon baseball team to a perfect week, sweeping a four-game series against Pitt-Johnstown and extending the Golden Knights’ win streak to nine games. The redshirt freshman catcher hit .538 (7-13) with a 1.077 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage in four contests. He recorded four runs, one double, two home runs, nine RBIs and 14 total bases while being perfect in 14 fielding opportunities. Cardy hit .714 (5-7) with runners on base, .667 (4-6) with runners in scoring position and .750 (3-4) with two outs. He had three two-out RBIs and drove home a run three times in four at-bats with a runner on third base and less than two outs. In the process, Cardy raised his average 16 points to a team-best .447 mark. The Franklin, Pa., native opened the weekend by going 1-for-2 with a sacrifice during both games of a doubleheader sweep at home. Cardy ripped a double and had two RBIs during a 6-4 victory in the nightcap. He went 5-for-9 with three runs, seven RBIs and two home runs during a twinbill sweep at Pitt-Johnstown. Cardy kicked off the road doubleheader with a 2-for-4 showing, scoring twice and driving home three runs. His three-run homer ignited a six-run fifth inning. Cardy went 3-for-5 with one run and four RBIs in the second game. His lead-off home run in the seventh sparked a three-run inning. Cardy generated his team-best 11th multiple-RBI game. He leads Gannon in average (.447), hits (38), home runs (3), RBIs (34), total bases (56) and slugging percentage (.659) through 25 games.
