Budd helped the Gannon wrestling team open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action last week with a perfect 2-0 road trip, defeating Millersville (36-9) and Shippensburg (23-19). The sophomore heavyweight won his match-up during both dual meets. Ranked No. 5 in latest NCAA Division II Super Region One rankings, Budd ended the Millersville dual-meet victory with a pin of David Wuestern in three minutes and 16 seconds. The effort resulted in his team-best 15th victory of the season with his team-best third pin. One night later, Budd took the mat against Shippensburg's Francis Slover with Gannon leading 20-19 and the verdict hanging in the balance. After a scoreless first period, Budd started the second period down and recorded a reversal for a 2-0 lead. He produced a takedown out of the neutral position during the third period, before adding a point for 2:42 riding time to clinch the team victory. Budd is 16-7 overall this season with three pins. Last week's two dual victories happened during Gannon's first dual meets of the season.
