Entering the 2011 NCAA Division II Super Region One Tournament unseeded, Robert Blotzer knocked off three of the top four seeds in the tournament last weekend. The run led to a fourth-place finish and a bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament March 9-10 in Pueblo, Colo. Drawing the No. 1 seed in the first round, Blotzer lost by a narrow 1-0 margin. His following match during the consolation bracket came against No. 2 seed and former national Josh Shields of Mercyhurst. He pinned the senior in the second round. To start Saturday’s action, Blotzer defeated the No. 3 seed Sean Byrnes of Newberry by a 7-2 score. Continuing down the list of ranked opponents, the junior then faced No. 4 seed Ronald Tetreault of American International in the consolation semifinals, earning a 4-2 win. Blotzer’s long day came to an end with a loss in the third-place match to No. 8 Thad Frick of East Stroudsburg.
