Director of Athletics Meghan Morphy has announced the hiring of Tanner Winand as the new Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations with Gannon Athletics. Winand brings with him a dynamic background in collegiate athletics, operations, and coaching, and is poised to contribute to the continued success and growth of the Golden Knights' athletic programs.

"We're excited for Tanner to join our staff and are confident he will make an immediate impact on our department in business and gameday operations," said Meghan Morphy, Director of Athletics. "It was evident during the interview process that he has a strong commitment to the student-athlete experience through his background in coaching and Division II athletics. Tanner is an excellent addition to our administrative team, and we look forward to welcoming him to Gannon Athletics."

Winand arrives in Erie after spending the last four years at Salem University, where he made a strong impact in multiple roles. Most recently, he served as an assistant men's basketball coach for three seasons, and prior to that, a season as assistant coach for Women's Basketball. His efforts helped lead Salem to two national championships—the 2024 USCAA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship and the 2023 USCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship. During his time as a graduate assistant, Salem compiled a record of 39-19 across two seasons.

In addition to his on-court responsibilities, Winand's operational roles have included academic liaison work, coordinating NCAA compliance, managing team travel, budget oversight, organizing fundraising campaigns, planning camps and clinics, scheduling, and overseeing game day operations.

"I am extremely excited and grateful to join Gannon University as the next Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations," said Winand. "I would like to thank Director of Athletics Meghan Morphy and the search committee for this incredible opportunity. I am looking forward to getting started and cannot wait to help continue the proud tradition and success of Gannon University Athletics."

Before his time at Salem, Winand served as a student manager for the Men's Basketball program at Ashland University, while also working in game day operations for a variety of Ashland sports programs. He was a member of Ashland's sport business club and was a dean's list recipient.

A native of Butler, Ohio, Winand earned his bachelor's in business administration - sport management from Ashland University in 2021 and a master's in curriculum & instruction – higher education administration from Salem University in 2023.Â
