Meghan Morphy was promoted to Director of Athletics effective June 20, 2025. She completed her 12th season as a member of the Gannon Athletic Department staff in 2024-25, serving as the Associate Director of Athletics for Budget and Planning in addition to serving as the SWA since July 2022.
She spent her first six years, from 2013-19, as the head coach of the competitive cheer and dance program. She built the program from a single all-girl team with 13 student-athletes to one with four teams — all-girl, coed, game day and dance — and nearly 80 student-athletes. Those teams qualified for the NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships 12 out of a possible 12 times, reaching the finals in 11 of those instances. The all-girl team set a new program standard with a third-place finish at Nationals in 2019, and game day debuted with a third-place finish in its first season of competition. Coed placed fifth, marking its third top-five finish in four seasons, and dance debuted with an eighth-place finish
She moved into an administrative role in 2019-20 serving in the newly-created position of Coordinator of Operations. She assisted with the department’s business operations, as well as compliance and student-athlete development efforts while holding sport administrator duties for the acrobatics and tumbling and competitive cheer and dance teams.
Morphy was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for Budget and Planning and the department’s Senior Woman Administrator in July 2020. Her duties included overseeing all financial reports, department budgets, team travel and ticket sales.
In 2021-22 she added sport oversight of men’s and women’s water polo programs. Morphy serves on several committees. She has been on the NCATA Awards Committee since 2021, along with the Athletics Gender Equity working group that same year. In 2020 she was appointed to the Middle States Committee and since 2019 has been a Public Speaking Adjunct in the School of Communication & the Arts.
Morphy was selected to attend the Women Leaders Institute for Advancement later in July 2024 and in the fall will serve as a Gannon First-Year Experience Facilitator.
A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Morphy previously served as head competitive cheer coach at Widener from 2011-13. She led the Pride to its first-ever competition title with a first-place finish in its division at the Reach the Beach National Championship in 2013, and the team was named grand champions of the college division at the event. She also led Widener to its first major national appearance during her first season, taking the Pride to the 2012 Cheersport National Championships.
Morphy earned her bachelor’s degree in Communications from Drexel in 2010, then completed work on her master’s degree in Higher Education in 2012. While at Drexel she worked as an assistant at Drexel’s ACHIEVE Center, mentoring academically vulnerable student-athletes and tracking their progress. In addition, she served as an assistant for development, maintaining records with current and potential donors.
Morphy, formerly Meghan Foran, was married during the summer to Sean Morphy, who serves as the Media Center Coordinator at Gannon and is an adjunct professor in the Communication and Arts Department. He is 2004 graduate of Gannon and served as the head coach of the men's and women's water polo team after previously playing for the Golden Knights. They have two sons, Hewson and Leo.
