Danielle Mignemi

Mignemi has been the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Gannon University since 2006. Originally hired in April of 2006 as a part-time employee, she accepted her current full-time position five months later. She is part of an athletic training staff that is responsible for the health and safety of nearly 400 student-athletes encompassing 18 sports. Her primary team coverage includes men’s soccer in the fall, men’s basketball in the winter and women’s lacrosse in the spring.

Mignemi graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine with a concentration in Athletic Training from Mercyhurst College in 1999. She earned a Master of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2000.

The Rochester, N.Y., native served as the head athletic trainer for the 2007 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament, the 2009 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Basketball Tournament and the 2009 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Atlantic Regional. At Gannon, she organizes athletic training coverage for summer camps, mentors graduate assistant athletic trainers within the department, serves as the insurance liaison, maintains the daily operating budget and provides coverage for teams outside her primary coverage as assigned by the head athletic trainer. She also serves as an adjunct instructor in Gannon’s Sport and Exercise Science Department.

Mignemi has been a clinical/outreach certified athletic trainer at Hamot Medical Center since 2004. Prior to her work at Gannon University and the Hamot Medical Center, she spent a little over two years at NCAA Division II Chowan (N.C.) University. Mignemi originally accepted the Chowan assistant athletic trainer position in January of 2002, before being elevated to the head athletic trainer later that year in June. She served in that position until moving to Erie, Pa., in August of 2004. While at Chowan, she hosted the DIAC Softball Tournament and the USA South Women’s Basketball Conference Tournament. Among her responsibilities at Chowan were being the NCAA Drug Testing Coordinator, serving as the insurance liaison and supervising the athletic training students. In addition to her athletic training responsibilities, she was also an instructor in the Health and Physical Education Department.

Mignemi began her athletic training career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in July of 1999. She served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Mocs while also being the head athletic trainer at Boyd Buchanan High School. Her coverage included the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Division I Tennis Tournament, the Bradley Central High School Wrestling Invitational, the TSSAA State Wrestling and Softball Championships and the Southeastern Conference Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament.

A four-year employee at Gannon, Mignemi is currently engaged and resides in Erie.
