Anneke Chewning

Chewning is in her fourth season on the Gannon coaching staff. She will work with the guards this season after working with the post players the past three seasons. Chewning has spearheaded Gannon’s Pink Zone initiative which has raised $40,000 over the past three years. The Lady Knights have posted a 79-18 record since Chewning’s arrival.

Prior to coming to Gannon, Chewning spent the previous two seasons as an assistant at Penn State Behrend under longtime head coach Roz Fornari. The Lions went 38-16 during her last two seasons, including a 21-6 mark in 2006-07.

In 2005-06, Penn State Behrend finished 17-10 overall and advanced to the second round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Tournament. The Lions received an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament bid after advancing to the AMCC finals in 2006-07.

“Anneke has been successful on the collegiate level as both a player and coach,” said Wright upon her hiring. “Her experience at Penn State Behrend was positive and gave her a solid foundation.”

Chewning assisted Fornari in player development, daily practice planning, on-court coaching and game preparation. She was responsible for the post players in practice and helped with recruiting efforts. She also monitored study table and the team’s academic progress which resulted in a 3.3 team grade-point average.

Prior to entering the coaching world, Chewning was a standout basketball student-athlete at the college and high school levels. Chewning began her collegiate career at NCAA Division II West Virginia Wesleyan, before transferring to Edinboro. She helped the Fighting Scots post an 18-10 mark while playing in 26 games as a senior.

She was a standout at Kennebunk (Maine) High School, where she was a talented three-sport star. As a senior, she was named the school’s Athlete of the Year.

Chewning graduated from Edinboro in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She later received her master’s degree in Business Administration from Penn State Behrend in 2007.
