Danny Lowton is entering his second season as an assistant with the Gannon men's soccer and women's soccer teams in 2020. Lowton was previously an assistant coach with the programs in 2016-17.
In his first year back with the men's program, Lowton helped lead Gannon to the program's second best finish the team's history. Gannon posted an 18-3-0 overall record in 2020 with a 9-1 finish in PSAC Play for their first ever regular season title. The Knights made it to their fourth straight PSAC Tournament appearance and their second PSAC Championship game in three seasons. Gannon also earned their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since the 2012 season as the No. 2 seed in the Super Region 1.
Lowton helped the Knights rake in 44 various accolades over the 2020 season and, as part of Colton's staff, was named to the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
In his first season back with the women's program, Lowton helped the Knights to an 8-7-2 overall finish with a 7-7-2 record in PSAC play. He helped the team earn three Athlete of the Week accolades and one All-Conference selection.
Lowton rejoins Gannon while also working as a strength and conditioning specialist with Lewis Fitness & Performance. He has been with the organization since July 2015 and oversees training programs for athletes of all ages, sports, and abilities. He designs programs for athletes and other clients based upon FMS, PRI, and DVRT principles, while taking into consideration their goals, injuries, and movement patterns. Lowton also advises clients and athletes on nutrition, including fat-loss and muscle building.
In May 2016 through July 2017, Lowton served as an assistant coach to the Gannon men's and women's soccer programs serving as a strength and conditioning coach. He helped the players through the team warm-up, which included miniband and movement preparation exercises. Lowton also created out-of-season strength and conditioning programs with individual player specializations.Â
Lowton implemented a new preseason program for the players, and designed the goalkeeper preseason and in-season training sessions for the Knights. In addition to his strength and conditioning responsibilities, Lowton helped the coaching staffs with feedback on recruiting videos and set-up, organized, and ran ID Camps for the prospective student-athletes.
Prior to his start with Gannon, Lowton served as a voluntary men's soccer strength and conditioning coach at Mercyhurst University from January 2015 to December 2015. While with the Lakers, he was responsible for designing an eight-week preseason packet for the players, creat and run an out-of-season circuit training program, teach the team Olympic lifts, provide general in-season and off-season nutritional advice, and provide various traning programs specific to each player.
A native of England, Lowton earned his Bachelor of Science in Sport and Exercise Science from Loughborough University in 2013. He went on to earn his Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from Mercyhurst University in 2016.
