Biography

Hughes returns as one of Gannon’s starters on defense … has also seen time in the midfield during her collegiate career … enters the season 14th all-time at Gannon since 2004 in caused turnovers (33), 17th in ground balls (84) and 20th in draw controls (34).

2012: Played in 16 matches, starting 15 … scored her lone goal during a 22-8 victory against Lake Erie … ranked second on the team in caused turnovers (11) … had a season-high six caused turnovers during a 19-13 win against Indiana (Pa.) … added three caused turnovers during the next match, resulting in a 21-2 victory against Tiffin … picked up a ground ball during 15 of 16 matches … had multiple ground balls in a match six times, including a season-high five against Indiana (Pa.) … followed with four ground balls against Tiffin … was one of the leaders for a defense that ranked fourth among Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams in scoring defense (11.17), draw controls per match (15.0) and ground balls per match (24.78).

2011: Was one of six Lady Knights to start every match … named to the All-PSAC third team … ranked 46th among all NCAA Division II players in ground balls per match (2.83) and 81st in caused turnovers per match (1.17) … was second on the team in ground balls (51) and caused turnovers (21) … netted goals during victories against Lake Erie (18-6) and rival Mercyhurst (12-11) … only took three shots all season, but scored on two of those shots … had arguably her best defensive match of the season with nine ground balls, six caused turnovers and three draw controls during a 19-7 victory against Millersville … set season-highs with her ground ball and caused turnover totals against Millersville … picked up at least four ground balls in a match six times, including each of the last four contests … won a season-high four draw controls at Lake Erie … caused four turnovers during a PSAC quarterfinal match against East Stroudsburg … helped the Gannon defense rank first among PSAC teams in ground balls per match (27.72), fifth in caused turnovers per match (9.17) and sixth in goals against average (10.29) … was part of a defensive unit that ranked fourth among all NCAA Division II programs in ground balls per match, 10th in scoring defense (10.44) and 22nd in caused turnovers per match.

2010: Saw action in 11 matches as a true freshman, starting one … scored her first two career goals during Gannon’s second match of the season, a 23-0 shutout at Erskine … made her first career start during an 18-11 victory at Slippery Rock, scoring once during the win … added single goals during victories against Indiana (Pa.), Millersville, Slippery Rock and Edinboro … picked up four of her seven ground balls for the season at Slippery Rock … won all three of her draw controls during the final two matches, including two at West Chester in the PSAC semifinals.

High School: Played for head coach Jeanne Dreisbach at University (W.Va.) High School … led the state in scoring as a senior, scoring 115 goals … was the state’s second-leading scorer as a junior with 64 goals … earned all-state honors as a junior … served as a co-captain during her senior campaign … named WBOY student-athlete of the week … led University to the state championship match as a junior … was a member of the National Honor Society … qualified for the PROMISE scholarship … received the Distinguished Writing Assessment Award.
