Lindsey Lowman

Lowman begins her fourth season as the Gannon head women's lacrosse coach in 2015. She became the fifth head coach in the program's 19-year history when former Gannon Director of Athletics Mark Richard announced her hiring Thursday, August 11, 2011.

The Lothian, Md., native has led the Lady Knights to a winning record during all three seasons at Gannon, including back-to-back Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament appearances during her first two seasons at the helm.

Gannon has been successful on and off the field under Lowman. The Lady Knights have earned all-conference accolades 12 times, all-region honors three times and all-america status once during Lowman’s three-year tenure. Five student-athletes have been selected to play in the NCAA Division II North-South Senior All-Star Match during that time frame.

Academically, Gannon lacrosse student-athletes have been named PSAC Scholar-Athletes 28 times and earned the Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) Academic Achievement Award 17 times. Gannon has also been named an Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Squad twice during the last three seasons.

Gannon recorded its 19th consecutive winning season in 2014 with a 9-8 overall record. The Lady Knights have never had a losing season during the program's 19-year history. The squad produced a 6-6 PSAC record, finishing one game out of the conference's six-team playoff field.

Lowman’s program featured 10 PSAC Scholar-Athletes and seven Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award winners. The Lady Knights also landed five on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.

Kimberly Neagle became a two-time All-PSAC honoree with a first-team selection. Jessica Kallenborn and Christie Valentine landed spots on the all-conference second and third teams, respectively. Neagle and Stevie Lombardoni later played in the NCAA Division II North-South All-Star Match.

In 2013, the squad opened the campaign with six victories during the first eight matches before advancing to the postseason with six conference wins. The Lady Knights reached double digits in victories for the ninth consecutive season while keeping the unbelievable streak of winning records during every campaign in their 18-year history at the time alive.

Academically, 10 Lady Knights were named PSAC Scholar-Athletes and six received the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award. Athletically, Jess Fugate was named to the All-PSAC first team and IWLCA All-South Region second team. Miranda Walters landed a spot on the all-conference second team.

Lowman’s first season at Gannon in 2012 was a success. The Lady Knights recorded a 12-6 overall record and 9-2 PSAC mark, finishing as the conference regular-season co-champions. The squad was ranked 14th in the final IWLCA national poll and fifth in the final two NCAA Division II South regional polls.

Gannon won 12 matches for the fourth consecutive season. The Lady Knights finished one victory shy of the school's single-season record for wins. The 1998 and 1999 teams hold the single-season record with identical 13-2 marks. The team's nine conference wins also represented the most during the program's four years in the PSAC at the time.

A league-best seven Lady Knights were named to the All-PSAC postseason teams. Fugate and Rachel DerCola both earned IWLCA All-South Region honors while Fugate later earned all-america accolades. Three seniors – DerCola, Sarah Grzybinski and Susie Taylor – were selected to play in the NCAA Division II North-South Senior All-Star Match.

The academic standards remained high with eight Lady Knights being named PSAC Scholar-Athletes and four receiving the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award. Grzybinski topped the academic achievements by being named to the Capital One All-District II first team and the All-America second team.

Lowman came to Gannon after previously serving as the head coach at Harford (Md.) Community College. The Fighting Owls produced a 6-7 record during Lowman’s only season at the helm in 2011. The success came against a demanding schedule that featured eight matches against nationally-ranked teams. The squad posted three victories against the nation’s best.

Harford qualified for the post-season in 2011, falling to CCBC-Cantonsville in the NJCAA Region 10 semifinals. Cantonsville was ranked No. 2 in the country at the time.

“We are extremely excited to have Lindsey join the Gannon and Erie community,” said Richard upon her hiring. “The committee believes the process brought a great coach with a tremendous future to Gannon. We have the utmost trust that Lindsey will be able to maintain Gannon’s position as one of the nation’s best women’s lacrosse programs - academically and athletically.”

Lowman began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Christopher Newport University, an NCAA Division III school in Newport News, Va. from 2002-2006. She helped guide the program to its first conference championship and first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2006. At CNU, she was responsible for game preparation, scouting and analyzing opponents, developing game plans and running individual workouts.

“I’m excited to be at the helm of an extremely competitive program in one of the most elite conferences in NCAA Division II,” said Lowman upon her hiring. “I’m looking forward to taking the program to the next level, and I believe the team is ready to take that step. I want to thank (former) Athletics Director Mark Richard for giving me this incredible opportunity, and I look forward to being a part of the Golden Knight team.”

Lowman was a standout during her collegiate playing days, earning all-america status as a senior at NCAA Division I William & Mary in 2001. The former attacker led the nation in assists (44) as a senior, leading the Tribe to a 9-7 record and a No. 6 national ranking. She currently holds the William & Mary records for assists in a match (8), season (44) and career (70). Lowman was named to the US Lacrosse All-America first team and the IWLCA All-America second team during her collegiate career.

Lowman has been involved with numerous high profile lacrosse camps since the summer of 2002, including the elite University of Virginia Fast Break Camp. She graduated from William & Mary with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a minor in sociology in 2001.
