Biography

Cortazzo returns as Gannon’s starting second baseman in 2014 … enters her senior campaign 18th all-time at Gannon with 76 career RBIs … ranks eighth all-time at Gannon since 2000 in home runs (11), 10th in assists (147), 11th in doubles (22), 13th in walks (39), 15th in total bases (168) and 19th in putouts (225).

2013: Saw action in 36 games, all starts … named a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete … earned All-PSAC Western Division first-team honors … named PSAC Western Division Player of the Week on April 2 … ranked fourth among PSAC players and 75th nationally in sacrifice flies (3) … led Gannon with nine multiple-RBI games … produced 11 multiple-hit games, representing the third-most on the team … recorded a season-high six-game hit streak March 4-8 … hit .377 (32-61) with runners on base, .429 (3-7) with the bases loaded and .375 (15-40) with runners in scoring position … reached base 47.6 percent (10-21) of the time when leading off an inning … drove home a run 71.4 percent (10-14) of the time with a runner on third base and less than two outs … had eight two-out RBIs … owned a .330 batting average or better for the entire season with the exception of a 1-for-4 start during the opening game … had a .400 batting average or better after 21 of the 37 games … recorded a season-high three RBIs in a game four times … scored multiple runs in a game five times … hit .483 (14-29) during the first nine games of the National Training Center Games in Clermont, Florida.

2012: Played in 46 games, all starts … named a PSAC Scholar-Athlete … landed a spot on the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region second team … named to the All-PSAC Western Division first team … ranked seventh among PSAC players in doubles (13) … led Gannon in batting average (.342), at-bats (149), hits (51), doubles, RBIs (32), total bases (79) and slugging percentage (.530) … hit .357 (30-84) with runners on base, .500 (3-6) with the bases loaded, .373 (22-59) with runners in scoring position and .321 (17-53) with two outs … reached base 50 percent (12-24) of the time when leading off an inning … recorded 13 multiple-hit games and seven multiple-RBI games … had a team-best 13-game hitting streak February 27-March 16 … hit .463 (19-41) with 14 runs and seven RBIs during the hit streak, recording eight of her 15 walks during that time span … named PSAC Western Division Player of the Week on March 27 after hitting .364 with five runs and nine RBIs in six games … went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs and five RBIs against California (Pa.) during her award-winning week … added three-hit performances against the University of Mary (N.D.) and Mercyhurst … drove in four runs and scored twice with two hits in three at-bats at Point Park … ended the season with eight hits during the final five contests.

2011: Started all 36 games she played in … finished third on the team in RBIs (15), fourth in walks (12), fourth in total bases (31) and fifth in runs scored (14) … finished with five multiple-RBI games and four multiple-hit games … recorded a five-game hitting streak, the second longest by any Lady Knight … produced a .307 slugging percentage and .310 on-base percentage … reached base 45 percent (9-20) of the time when leading off an inning … recorded six RBIs in 10 chances with runners on third base and less than two outs … hit .470 (8-17) with six runs scored and three RBIs during a five-game stretch in Florida … went 3-for-4 with two RBIs against Saint Anselm (N.H.) in her second collegiate start … recorded three hits with a run scored against Wheeling Jesuit … added three RBIs during Gannon’s 12-4 win against Point Park … drove in four runs with a grand slam during a 6-2 victory against Lake Erie … went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs during a doubleheader against Slippery Rock.

High School: Played for head coach and mother Dee Cortazzo at Jeannette (Pa.) High School … earned all-state accolades twice, being named to the first team as a senior and the honorable-mention squad as a junior … was a four-time all-section honoree and three-time team MVP … selected to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette All-Area softball team as a junior and senior … named to the MSA Sports Network Softball All-Star team in 2009 … was the MSA Sports Network Spotlight Athlete in July of 2009 … named Pittsburgh Tribune Review Athlete of the Week twice during her high school career … selected to play in the 2009 Queens of Diamonds Showcase … served as a team captain for her summer travel team in 2007 and 2008 … produced her travel team’s highest batting average four straight seasons … hit safely in 33 consecutive high school games during a time that spanned two seasons … helped Jeanette win its first section title and make its first postseason appearance in school history during her final season … was a member of the National Honor Society … graduated with high honors.
