Melody enters his second season as a member of the Gannon men’s soccer coaching staff. The Dungarvan, Ireland native is a well-known commodity in the soccer coaching circles after a very successful stint as the head coach at rival Mercyhurst (1994-01), coaching both the women’s and men’s teams.
Melody led the men’s team to a 70-21-4 overall record, including a perfect 27-0 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matches. He was a three-time GLIAC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year (1997, 1998, 1999) and earned Men’s Central Region Coach-of-the-Year accolades in 1998.
The women’s squad went 72-19-6 overall during five seasons under Melody, including a 37-4-3 mark in conference play. Melody was named GLIAC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year twice (1998, 1999) and was selected Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year twice (1999, 2000).
Melody graduated from Mercyhurst in 1990, before playing in Antigua for the country’s premier league. He also competed two years in Ireland, playing for the Division I Cahar Davin Celtic team. His coaching career began when he served as an assistant at Mercyhurst during the 1995 and 1996 seasons.
