Joseph Kammerer is entering his second season as a strength and conditioning coach with the Gannon men’s basketball program in 2021-22.
Kammerer comes to Gannon after spending the 2019-20 season at Mercyhurst as a graduate assistant strength coach. With the Lakers, he assisted with program design and implementation for 12 teams. Kammerer also developed training schedules for both in-season and off-season as well as created programs for athletes returning from injury.
Prior to his stop at Mercyhurst, Kammerer was a volunteer assistant strength and conditioning coach at California State Fullerton, where he primarily worked with men’s and women’s basketball and baseball. He also worked in the Kinesiology department at California State Fullerton as a teaching associate. Kammerer led a class of undergraduate health students through an introductory anatomy and physiology course that included lecture and lab portions.
During his time in California, Kammerer worked at the Office Sports Academy as a strength coach. He coached a large group of young athletes with the goal of developing fundamental skills and introducing strength and power training. He also spent time as a volunteer assistant coach at Cal Poly Pomona Strength & Conditioning, where he assisted in the explanation of primary, secondary and accessory exercises to all athletes.
Kammerer earned his bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and Digital Media at Idaho in 2014, where he also played basketball and was named to the WAC All-Academic Team three times. He went on to earn his master’s degree in Kinesiology at California State University in 2017 and also earned a master’s certificate in Organizational Leadership from Mercyhurst in 2020.
Kammerer currently works at Erie Sports Now Fitness as an assistant strength coach, where he helps with program design and implementation for individual youth athletes, college athletes and the general population.
He and his wife, Megan, currently reside in Erie with their daughter, Stevie.
