Knauf begins his first season on the Gannon coaching staff. In addition to working with the running backs, he will serve as the program’s video coordinator.
The Painesville, Ohio, native has spent the last three years as an assistant coach at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member Lake Erie. Knauf began his collegiate coaching career as a student assistant coach during the spring of 2011, before continuing with the Storm as an assistant coach following graduation. He coached mainly wide receivers during his three-year stay. Lake Erie led the GLIAC and ranked second among all NCAA Division II programs with 551.4 yards per game last season. Team totals included 252.8 rushing yards per game, 298.5 passing yards per game and 38.8 points per game. Two of his wide receivers earned all-conference accolades in 2013.
Knauf helped recruit Akron (Ohio), Cleveland (Ohio) and Western Pennsylvania at Lake Erie. Other off-the-field responsibilities included position meetings, game file breakdown and game data collection. He also assisted with weekly game plans and daily practice schedules.
Prior to his Lake Erie stay, Knauf was an assistant coach at Riverside (Ohio) High School from May of 2008 until November of 2010. He tutored the wide receivers and defensive backs at the varsity level while serving as the head coach and offensive coordinator at the junior varsity level. Two wide receivers earned all-conference honors under his guidance, including one who later played in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).
