Kamau Dumas

Kamau Dumas is the newest member of the Gannon football staff, coming on board in late July 2022. He will coach the cornerbacks, assisting defensive backs coach Thomas Pearson, and will also serve as the video coordinator. Dumas had been serving as the defensive backs coach at McPherson College, an NAIA school in Kansas, until joining the Golden Knights.
 
The native of Morristown, N.J. began his coaching career at his alma mater, serving as the defensive backs / receivers coach from June 2021 to March 2022. In addition, he has spent time as a speed, agility, and defensive backs trainer. He furthered the development of a number of student-athletes who went on to receive scholarships to various universities. He also worked with Inception Sports Performance as a football specialist.
 
Dumas received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from Monmouth University in 2017. The native of Morristown, N.J. started 27 games for the Hawks at cornerback. He was a first team All-Big South selection in 2017 after finishing the year with 37 tackles while finishing second on the team with 9 passes broken up. He was also second in interceptions with 3 for 64 yards, including one return for a touchdown. He set the Monmouth record for longest punt return that season with an 89-yard return for a touchdown against Holy Cross that season. He averaged 12.8 yards on 14 punt returns. Monmouth finished 9-3 that year and was selected for the NCAA FCS Playoffs.

He would go on to have a tryout with the NFL’s New York Giants, and had an invite to the Baltimore Brigade of the Arena Football League. He later signed with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Indoor Football League.
