Gannon University football coach Erik Raeburn announced the addition of Cody Stephens as an assistant coach on his staff in mid-July 2023. Stephens will oversee the running backs.
Stephens joins the Gannon staff after serving as the defensive coordinator at Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida this past season. He enjoyed great success, helping the Tornadoes snap a 20-game losing streak to finish the season at 6-4 and win the District Championship.
The native of Sarasota, Florida previously served as a defensive assistant and junior varsity defensive coordinator at Palmetto High School from 2019-21. He helped Palmetto to the number one ranking in the state, winning three FHSAA district championships, two regional titles, and reaching the FHSAA Class 6A state semifinals twice (6A, 7A).
From 2016-19 Stephens served as an assistant coach at Sarasota High School, working with the wide receivers/defensive backs and linebackers. He was also the team’s recruiting coordinator.
Stephens received his Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences from the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, with a minor in Leadership Studies. Â
