2008 Fall A Team - Carol Kienzl
Membership in the Golden Knight’s “A” Team represents the very best in intercollegiate athletics. Thirty-three students have qualified by achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA during the most recently completed semester. Gannon’s 347 student-athletes earned a cumulative GPA of 3.22 this past fall semester.
Carol Kienzl, a junior criminal justice major from Pittsburgh, PA, joins the “A” team after earning a 4.0 GPA during the fall semester. She is a member of the softball team, and is a key player in the outfield. During her time at Gannon, Kienzl has received many awards for her success on the field and in the classroom, including being named to the GLIAC All-Academic team, the All-GLIAC Softball Second team, and to ESPN the Magazine’s All-Academic District II, second team in 2008. She was also named to Daktronics North-East All-Region Softball, second team in 2007. She has been a member of the Dean’s list every semester, and has also been nominated for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
“What I like about playing softball at the college level is that is allows you to manage your time from softball, school activities, and school in general,” Kienzl said. “At first, I wanted to play softball in college because I had a passion for the sport and didn't want to end my career in high school. However, through my three years of playing softball for Gannon I realized what I love most is the girls on the field right next to me. Through the bus trips, practices, hotel nights, GLIAC tournaments, regionals, spring break trips, we have become a family which can never be broken, I know that we have each other and we will have each other's backs through thick and thin.”
In addition to playing softball, Kienzl is also involved in Alpha Phi Sigma, a criminal justice honors society. After graduation, Kienzl is hoping to find a job in the Pittsburgh area, and is currently leaning towards working in the court system. She chose criminal justice because of the many opportunities for women and the ability for you to help change people’s lives.
