Semifinal Game #1 – Sunday, March 15, 2009


ERIE, Pa. – Third-seeded Kutztown jumped out to a 31-16 first-half lead and led start to finish en route to a 92-86 victory over seventh-seeded Indiana (Pa.) Sunday evening in the first NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Atlantic Regional semifinal game hosted by Gannon University.

Kutztown owned a double-digit lead for the majority of the first half’s final eight minutes and led 50-39 at the half. Indiana (Pa.) battled throughout the second half, but could never cut the deficit lower than four points.

Kutztown’s Ryan Washington was the star of the game, producing 28 points and nine rebounds. He was 12-of-14 from the field. Five Golden Bears reached double digits in scoring.

Darryl Webb had a double-double for IUP, recording 16 points and 11 rebounds. Thomas Young led the Crimson Hawks with 19 points.

Kutztown (28-4) moves into Tuesday’s Atlantic Regional Championship game against top-seeded Gannon. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. IUP’s season ended with a 22-8 record.
