ERIE, Pa. – Seventh-seeded Indiana (Pa.) provided the Atlantic region’s biggest upset on day one as the Crimson Hawks out-scored No. 2 Virginia Union 29-17 in the final 10:23 to post a 69-63 victory in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Quarterfinals hosted by Gannon University.
Virginia Union led 30-28 after a tight first half and still owned a 46-44 lead after Jason Wansley’s three-pointer with 10:43 to play. However, IUP responded with a 14-2 run to assume a 58-48 lead with 3:57 to play. The Panthers were unable to get closer than six points the rest of the way.
Gerald Brooks led IUP with a double-double, producing 20 points and 11 rebounds. Julian Sanders netted 14 points off the bench. Gregg Thondique headlined the Virginia Union attack with 18 markers. Lemoyne Williams posted 14 points.
Indiana (Pa.) improved to 22-7 and will play the Kutztown in the regional semifinals Sunday, March 15 at 5 p.m. Virginia Union concluded its season at 21-7.
