Clontz Hits Milestone as Softball Sweeps Point Park on Wiley’s Birthday

ERIE, Pa. – Jenna Clontz (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) recorded her 100th and 101st career hits in style, belting a pair of home runs to lead the Gannon softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Point Park on Wednesday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium.

With the wins, the Golden Knights improved to 13-13 overall on the season.

Clontz entered game one with 99 career hits and wasted no time reaching the milestone, launching a two-run home run in the first inning before adding another long ball later in the game to surpass the century mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One
Gannon wasted no time offensively, plating two runs in the first before erupting for six runs in the second inning to take firm control. The Golden Knights added two more in the third and one in the fourth to complete the run-rule victory.

Clontz powered the offense with two home runs and five RBI, while Emma Smerick (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) added two hits and three RBI. The Knights finished with 10 hits in the opener.

In the circle, Miranda Biles (Hartstown, Pa./Jamestown Area) was dominant, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just three hits and striking out five.
 
Game Two
Gannon jumped out early again, scoring four runs in the first inning behind timely extra-base hits from Olivia Eckels (Saint Marys, Pa./Saint Marys Area) and Lindsay Breuer (Mason, Ohio/Mason).

After Point Park cut into the lead, the Golden Knights responded with a three-run third inning and added insurance runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth.

Izzy Nageli (Erie, Pa./McDowell) delivered the biggest moment late, ripping a triple to help seal the win in the sixth inning. Lindsay Breuer (Mason, Ohio/Mason) led the offense with three hits and four RBI, while Kennedy Maynard (San Diego, Cal./University City) and Olivia Eckels (Saint Marys, Pa./Saint Marys Area) also drove in key runs.

Jessica Westmiller (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) earned the win in relief, striking out five over four innings, while Josie Spano (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) made the start.
