Clarion Uses Big Fourth Inning to Defeat Softball in Rescheduled PSAC Matchup

CLARION, Pa. — The Golden Knights returned to action in a rescheduled PSAC contest from April 10, falling to Clarion 10-5 on Wednesday afternoon.

A six-run fourth inning by the Golden Eagles proved to be the difference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Knights struck first in the opening inning, as Alli Novick (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney Community) delivered an RBI single to bring home Emma Smerick (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) for a 1-0 lead.

Clarion answered with two runs in the bottom half and broke the game open in the fourth inning, scoring six runs on seven hits to take control at 8-1.

Gannon chipped away in the fifth on an RBI single from Emily Spears (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area), then plated three runs in the sixth inning, taking advantage of walks and defensive miscues to trim the deficit to 9-5.

Clarion added an insurance run in the sixth and held off the late push to secure the 10-5 victory.
