MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Gannon softball team wrapped up play at the Space Coast Games on Monday, falling to Ferris State 5-2 before dropping a 6-4 decision to Indianapolis later in the afternoon.
GAME ONE – FERRIS STATE
Ferris State 5, Gannon 2
Gannon struck first in the opening inning when
Emma Smerick (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) and
Sadie Carroll (North Canton, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) opened the game with back-to-back singles before both moved into scoring position on stolen bases.
Jenna Clontz (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Smerick, and
Kloie Troutman (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria) followed with an RBI fielder's choice to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead.
Ferris State answered with a run in the bottom of the first before tying the game in the third inning. The Bulldogs pushed ahead with a run in the fifth and added two insurance runs in the sixth to secure the win.
