WEST CHESTER, PA- The Golden Knights dropped both games of the doubleheader to West Chester on Sunday as the Golden Rams swept the four game set.
The opener was a classic that featured tremendous starting pitching. Nolan Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) went five and two thirds, allowing just two runs. Gannon took a 2-0 lead in the fifth on two RBI singles, but West Chester would tie it at 2-2 in the sixth and walk things off in the bottom of the seventh.
Gannon's offense struggled in the second game. WCU took a 1-0 lead after the first inning that would be leveled in the fifth when Cainen Atherton (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union Area) tied the score on a solo home run. The Golden Rams would respond with three in the bottom half of the frame to claim the win.

Starting Pitching Success - In a no-decision, Nolan Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) was tremendous on the bump as the game one starter. The sophomore hurled five and two thirds, allowing just two runs and striking out three. He walked just one batter.

Out Front – The Golden Knights would break the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth. First, Drew Stangelo (Uniontown, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) would single through the left side to plate to score Dom Costello (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted). Three batters later, Hunter Troiano (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seneca Valley) plated another run with his 11th RBI of the campaign.

Smith Shines – Matt Smith (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) continues to see the ball exceptionally well in March. The junior collected two hits in the loss, finishing with four hits in the series.
