Smerick, Mallozzi Named to D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Teams

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – A pair of Gannon University softball players have been named to the 2025 D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Teams. After previously earning a spot on the NFCA Division II All-Atlantic Region First Team Emma Smerick (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) has now earned a spot on the D2CCA All-Atlantic Region First Team. In addition, Natalia Mallozzi (Woodbridge, Ontario/Father Bressani Catholic) is now a two-time second team D2CCA All-Atlantic Region selection.

The duo helped Gannon finish with a 29-19 record. The Golden Knights finished second in the PSAC West and reached the PSAC Tournament for the 14th straight year.

Smerick earned a spot in the outfield and is now a candidate for All-American honors. She was recently named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year after enjoying an outstanding sophomore campaign. She is now a two-time All-PSAC West first team honoree and became Gannon's first player named PSAC West Athlete of the Year since Jess Rectenwald in 2015.

The sophomore outfielder from Ford City, Pa. ended the season with a .394 batting average with 61 hits in 155 at bats, both team highs. In addition, she drove in 34 runs, good for third on the team.

While hitting leadoff Smerick displayed a combination of power and speed. She had 11 doubles, a team-leading nine triples, and six home runs, which tied for the team lead. The nine triples is the second-highest season total. Finally, she set a new school record with 35 stolen bases. That gives her a career total of 55 steals in two seasons, tied for second all-time.

Smerick led the team with a .697 slugging percentage and was second in on-base percentage at .469. Her 108 total bases rank fourth in a season. She finished the season with 16 multiple-hit games including a season-high three hits in six games.

Mallozzi concluded a brilliant career for the Golden Knights. The native of Woodbridge, Ontario was named to the D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Second Team for the second straight year at first base. She was previously honored for the third time as an All-PSAC West selection.

The lefty-swinging first baseman led the team with a .399 batting average after hitting .440 a year ago. She had 55 hits in 138 at bats, with 331 runs and 32 RBIs. She had nine doubles, two triples and five home runs and added another element to her game with 13 stolen bases. She was second to Smerick in slugging percentage (.601) and thanks to a team-high 24 walks had a team-best .506 on-base percentage.

Mallozzi was also outstanding in the field with just two errors in 302 chances, a .993 fielding percentage. She ended her career with the third-highest batting average at .389. She ranks among the career leaders in several other career categories, including sixth in doubles with 36.
