The Gannon women's lacrosse team battled until the final whistle but couldn't complete the comeback, falling 13-12 to Lock Haven on Wednesday afternoon in a tight PSAC West matchup at McConnell Family Stadium.
The game was played as part of Gannon's Morgan's Message dedication, raising awareness for student-athlete mental health.
With the loss, Gannon drops to
4-8 overall and 1-4 in PSAC West play, while Lock Haven improves to
6-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Ella Todd (Maple Ridge, British Columbia/Maple Ridge Secondary) paced the Golden Knights with a season-high five goals, including a third-quarter burst that gave Gannon a brief lead.
Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) added three goals and two assists while collecting 12 draw controls — one short of tying the program's single-game record — helping Gannon dominate possession in the middle of the field.
Charlie Hunter (Boston, N.Y./Hamburg) chipped in four goals, including a crucial fourth-quarter tally that tied the game at 11. Despite the offensive output, Gannon couldn't fully capitalize, with late turnovers and defensive miscues proving costly.
Statistically, Gannon held the edge in shots (30-27) and draw controls (21-8), but Lock Haven made the most of their chances down the stretch to escape with the win.
How it Happened:
- After Lock Haven opened the scoring, Charlie Hunter (Boston, N.Y./Hamburg) answered with a man-up goal assisted by Stevens to tie it at 1-1.
- Ella Todd's (Maple Ridge, British Columbia/Maple Ridge Secondary) first goal came midway through the second quarter, and she struck again just before halftime as Gannon stayed within two at 6-4.
- Gannon surged in the third, with Stevens, Hunter, and Todd all scoring to pull even at 7-7.
- Todd followed with back-to-back goals — part of her third-quarter hat trick — to give Gannon a 9-8 lead. After Lock Haven responded, Hunter scored again to push the Knights ahead 10-9.
- Lock Haven answered with three straight goals, but Hunter's free-position goal tied it at 11.
- Down 13-11 late in the fourth, Stevens added her third to close the gap, but Gannon couldn't find the equalizer.
