SLIPPERY ROCK, PA - Seven hours, wind, and rain. 

And just eight complete innings played. 

In typical western PA spring fashion, Gannon and Slippery Rock were delayed over three hours due to weather in their doubleheader. Following a game one loss, the Golden Knights took a 1-0 lead in game two before mother nature put a halt to the contest, which was suspended in the bottom of the second inning. 

GAME 1

Katie Armstrong (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) got the game one nod, taking her 13-3 record up against the top team in the west. She would strike out four in the first two innings, keeping the game 0-0 heading to the third. 

After GU went 1-2-3 in the third, SRU took a 1-0 lead after an RBI double broke the ice. But Gannon would tie the game in the top of the fifth when Emma Smerick (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) smacked a double that plated Ashley Fox (Cowansville, Pa./Karns City). GU would give up the go ahead run in the bottom of the frame when Slippery Rock notched an RBI double. A sac fly followed, and it was 3-1 SRU after five. 

Things looked promising for the Golden Knights in the top of the sixth when Destiny Garcia (Stockton, Cal./Bear Creek) and Abbey Girman (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) reached to start the frame. But GU couldn't get any runs across, and another tally from SRU in the bottom of the sixth sealed a 4-1 defeat for Gannon. 

GAME 2
Smerick started off the game with earning a piece of Gannon history. A triple down the line in left was enough to earn her eighth three bagger of the year, setting a GU program record. She would score on the next hitter when Alaina Whipkey (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) reached on an error. 

The game was suspended in the bottom of the second inning due to weather.
