The Gannon University water polo team went
1-1 at the
WWPA Bearcat Clash, securing a thrilling
11-10 victory over Salem before falling
11-7 to McKendree at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex on
Saturday.
In the win against Salem, Gannon surged ahead with a dominant
five-goal third quarter.
Jade Strickland (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) and Ellie Velasco (Bronx, Calif./Arlington) led the offense with three goals each, while
Brigid Carmody (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and Emma O'Gorman (Johannesburg, South Africa/St Stithians College) added two apiece.
The defense was active with
13 steals, and
goalie Izabella Trunzo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) made six key saves to help seal the victory.
Against McKendree, Gannon fell behind early and trailed
5-2 at halftime. Despite a strong fourth quarter, the comeback fell short.
Strickland netted three goals, Molly Fehr (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) scored twice, and Velasco contributed three assists, but McKendree secured the win.
Molly Sebunia (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Trunzo split time in goal with each playing 16 minutes.
Sebunia was credited with two saves.

Gannon closes the regular season at home, hosting the
WWPA Erie Classic on
April 5-6 at the
Hallman Aquatics Center. The Golden Knights face
McKendree (9:00 AM) and Salem (5:00 PM) on Saturday, followed by
Penn State Behrend (8:00 AM) and Washington & Jefferson (2:00 PM) on Sunday.
