Third-Ranked Acrobatics & Tumbling Drops Season Opener To Duquesne

Golden Knights To Gear Up For Gannon Tri-Meet On Feb. 14

In their season opener from downtown Pittsburgh, the third-ranked Gannon acrobatics & tumbling team led after the toss event, but ultimately fell in a close battle with No.15 Duquesne, 253.060-251.320.

Gannon will prepare for its first home date on Friday, February 14. It's the Gannon Tri-Meet at the Highmark Events Center, when Buffalo State & Trine come to visit.

Compulsory Event
Gannon started the meet off on a strong note, winning Compulsory 36.150-34.150. The Golden Knights were especially strong in both the Pyramid (9.650) and Toss (9.700) heats.

Acro Event
In the Acro event, Gannon maintained its overall lead but was edged in the event overall, 26.95-26.10. The Golden Knights got progressively stronger as the heats went on, tallying their largest score in the 7 element heat (8.950).

Pyramid Event
In a strong showing from both teams, Duquesne took the Pyramid event 28.60-28.20. Gannon showcased a 9.65 in the Open heat and 9.45 in the Synchronized heat. At the half, GU held a slim 90.45-89.70 lead.

Toss Event
The Golden Knights stretched the overall lead in the toss event. Winners by a 26.25-25.10 score, the 450 Salto heat was the only heat of the event on either side to eclipse a score of 9 or better (9.00).

Tumbling Event
Despite having an overall advantage heading into Tumbling, Gannon saw the lead slip away after falling 50.850-47.750 in the event. The Golden Knights strongest heat was the 6 Element Pass, chalking up an 8.975.

Team Event
The Team event concluded the season opening meet and was tight from the start. A score of 86.87, however, was not enough for Gannon to close the gap as Duquesne tallied a 87.41 of their own to claim the overall meet.
