Vandiver's Squad Shines in Inaugural Gannon Women's Duals

ERIE, PA - The Golden Knights showcased an impressive effort in their inaugural Gannon Women's Duals inside the Recreation and Wellness Center. GU stormed out to three convincing wins to open the day before falling in a back and forth battle to #18 Lehigh, 26-17. Gannon improved to 6-3 in dual meets this season. 

THE KNIGHT CAP - GU 32, Otterbein 11

  • Tech Fall Triumphs - Jada Badayos-Chaves (Odenton, Md./Arundel High) started the day at 103 lbs with a tech fall victory and the Golden Knights started rolling from there. She, along with Hannah McCarley (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda High), Jaylene Martinez (Whittier, Cal./Whittier), Lili Ujfalvi (Kecskemet-heteny, Hungary/Bolyai Janos Secondary School), Rose Cassioppi (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah), Bella Phillips (Bellingham, Wash./Squalicum High School), and Caroline Biegel (Ringwood, N.J./DePaul Catholic) all earned wins in that fashion. 
  • Making Quick Work -  Cassioppi's tech was particularly impressive, as she earned three takedowns in the first 12 seconds en route to a win at the 22 second mark.

THE KNIGHT CAP - GU 49, Waynesburg 0

  • Falls Around - The Golden Knights had multiple pinfall wins in match two. Isabella McNutt (Allison Park, PA/Hampton Township) took home a VFA at 124, while Kennedy Perez (Parkland, Fla./Benjamin Franklin (Mich.)) did the same at 117. Martinez earned a fall at the 1:02 mark of the first to cap the pinfall success.
  • Clean Sweep -  Gannon swept the dual meet, claiming all ten matches and falling one point shy of a maximum score. 
THE KNIGHT CAP - GU 30, West Liberty 14
  • Bouncing Back- After Jada Badayos-Chaves (Odenton, Md./Arundel High) earned a come from behind pinfall victory in the opening match, GU would drop the next three bouts. Yet, Sierra Chiesa (West Springfield, Pa./Northwestern) would win via fall at 131, and Gannon would win the next five matches in succession to take the dual. 
  • Ladder Stage Success-  Leyna Rumpler (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) was part of the string of victories down the stretch. A flurry of early takedowns ended proceedings in a 10-0 victory. Phillips and Biegel would finish off the match with 11-0 and 13-0 triumphs. 
THE KNIGHT CAP - GU 17, Lehigh 26
  • Finale Winners- Badayos-Chaves would earn another victory, 12-0 to start the match ... Rumpler took home a 10-0 win at 145 ... Cassioppi was true to form, winning at 160 ... Phillips defeated her opponent, 8-4.
