THE KNIGHT CAP
  • Gannon Forges Tie in Fourth Quarter: Leading 14-7 at the half Cal came out and scored in two plays to open the third quarter. The Golden Knights pulled to within 21-14 on a 51-yard pass from Ty Hurst (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) to Tristen Kenan (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) midway through the quarter. The Golden Knights followed with an 11-play, 88-yard march to tie the game at 21-21 when Hurst found Damario Moore (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) for a five-yard TD pass at 11:28 of the fourth quarter. The tie lasted 21 seconds as Cal's Kendrick Agenor broke off a 77-yard touchdown run. Agenor added a 13-yard TD run and the Vulcans scored on a fumble return to pull away late.
  • Scrambling Hurst Fires Three TD Passes: Ty Hurst (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) found himself scrambling all afternoon but the redshirt sophomore threw for three touchdowns while under a heavy rush. He opened the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Matt Cannone (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory), the first career touchdown for the senior wide receiver. He added a 51-yard scoring pass to Tristen Kenan (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) and a five-yarder to Damario Moore (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North). Hurst completed 23-of-42 passes for 324 yards while being sacked seven times.
  • Faulkner Sets Tight Ends Record:  James Faulkner (West Bloomfield Township, Mich./West Bloomfield) broke the Gannon record for receptions by a tight end in a season thanks to a 6-reception, 82-yard effort. The senior now holds GU records for receptions by a tight end in a season (40) and yards receiving (618).
  • Special K Burns the Vulcans: Tristen Kenan (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) enjoyed another big afternoon totaling 186 yards in total offense. The sophomore running back carried the ball 19 times for 85 hard-earned yards and caught 4 passes for 101 yards, capped by a 51-yard touchdown. Kenan has now set the record for season receiving yards by a running back with 405 and is six receptions shy of record for receptions in a season. He has 29 catches.
  • Cannone Reaches Paydirt for First Time: Matt Cannone (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) has taken advantage of a plethora of injuries at the receiving position to earn a starting role. The senior scored his first career touchdown at Gannon in the first quarter, making a diving catch for a 23-yard score.
  • Let's Not Forget the D:  It has been a much-maligned defense for most of the season but last week the unit made strides against a strong IUP team and on Saturday then Golden Knights limited the Vulcans to 293 total yards. The defense came up with four turnovers, two interceptions – one by Zeshon Casimir (Sarasota, Fla./Cardinal Mooney) and another by Sir Giles (Kissimmee, Fla./Tohopekaliga) – along with recovering two fumbles (Tyshawn Stewart (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township), Myron Green (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis)).
