Arslan, Hyde Named Gannon Student-Athletes of the Week

ERIE, Pa. Bengisu Arslan (Ankara, Turkey/Private Çankaya Doga Anatolian), a member of the volleyball team, and men's soccer player Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil/) have been selected as the Gannon University Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of November 2. This marks the ninth week honoring Gannon's Student-Athlete of the Week and encompasses events through Sunday.

Both student-athletes have one thing in common. They led their respective teams to the top seed in the PSAC West. The volleyball team improved to a perfect 10-0 in the Western Division with 3-0 wins at Pitt-Johnstown and Indiana (Pa.). The Golden Knights are now 19-5 overall and have won 14 of their last 15 matches.

Arslan continues to add to her legacy as one of the top setters in the history of the Gannon program. She became just the third Golden Knight to reach 4,000 career assists at IUP as Gannon dominated the match against the closest competition in the Western Division.

Gannon won 25-18, 25-15, 25-12 as Arslan contributed 29 assists, 12 digs and 3 service aces. She boosted her career total to 4,026 assists. The night before the senior from Ankara, Turkey had 33 assists as Gannon swept UPJ.

Hyde paced the men's soccer team to a pair of wins this past week as the Golden Knights have now run off six wins in a row to improve to 10-2-4 overall and 7-0-2 in the PSAC West. Saturday's 3-0 win at Lock Haven clinched first place in the division with one match remaining.

Hyde led an offensive uprising in Wednesday's 7-0 win over Slippery Rock. The junior forward from São José dos Campos, Brazil scored two goals and assisted on two more. In the clinching win at Lock Haven he scored Gannon's second goal, his eighth goal of the season.
