The No. 4 seed Gannon women's soccer team opened the Atlantic Regional with a composed and complete performance on Friday afternoon, securing a 2–0 victory over No. 5 seed Bloomsburg.
The Golden Knights controlled the match from start to finish, netting a goal in each half while locking down their ninth team shutout of the year to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Gannon now turns its attention to
No. 1 seed Shepherd, the
back-to-back PSAC Women's Soccer Champion and the host of the regional pod.
The Golden Rams eliminated the Golden Knights in the
PSAC Quarterfinals just one week ago, adding extra meaning and urgency to Sunday's rematch with a spot in the Atlantic Regional semifinals on the line.
"You're always going to be facing tougher opponents, and they made it difficult for us," said head coach
Colin Petersen. "We're going to have to be really good to beat Shepherd. I think it was a good game to get under our belt, and now it's onwards."
