ALLIANCE, OH– A season filled with high expectations got off to a strong start on Saturday, as the Golden Knights finished first among 14 teams at the Mount Union Invitational. Twenty-nine Gannon wrestlers were in action, resulting in five weight-class champions and several additional place-winners for Tom Boyd's squad entering the 2025-26 season.

THE KNIGHT CAP

• Sallot Strikes Again - Fresh off a stellar campaign from a year ago, Logan Sallot (Erie, PA/McDowell High School) picked up right where he left off with a win at 125 lbs. The McDowell product secured two wins (decision, MD) before claiming the title via injury forfeits in the semis and finals. 
• Across the Pond: Mercyhurst transfer Jake Niffenegger (Mason, Ohio/La Salle) was dominant in his Gannon debut. At 141, he would pick up three victories in the early rounds, one by fall, and earned a second fall victory at 5:50 in the finale to claim first place.
• Other Winners: Grant MacKay (New Castle, Pa./Laurel), Pat Jackson, and Joey Lyons (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) all picked up wins in their respective weight classes to begin the season. 
• Team Win: Gannon was first among 14 teams with 182.5 points. Seton Hill was second with 159 points.

The Golden Knights will take part in the Ohio Intercollegiate Open next Sunday, November 9th in Cleveland.
