Lauvstad, Rekka Score as Gannon Plays to 2-2 Tie at Pitt-Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN Pa. – The Gannon men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday afternoon. A much-improved UPJ squad was able to forge the tie with a goal in the 82nd minute. Per Kristian Lauvstad (Nesoya, Norway/) and Enzo Rekka (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina/Gymnasium of the Catholic School Centre "Sveti Franjo") accounted for the Gannon goals.

The Golden Knights are 3-2-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the PSAC West while Pitt-Johnstown is now 5-1-1 and also 1-0-1 in league play.

  • First Half Scoring Features Pair of Late Goals: The first half went scoreless until UPJ's Oscar Trilles Monferrer broke the ice on a free kick at 37:37. Less than two minutes later at 39:34 Per Kristian Lauvstad (Nesoya, Norway/) knotted the score at 1-1, assisted by Carl Dorner (Skødstrup, Sweden/)
  • Rekka Gives Golden Knights the Lead:  Freshman Enzo Rekka (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina/Gymnasium of the Catholic School Centre "Sveti Franjo") gave Gannon a 2-1 lead on his third goal of the season at the 65:53 mark. Fellow first-year player Fabricio Zuliani (Cordóba, Argentina/Instituto Técnico Salesiano Villada) assisted on the goal.
  • UPJ Knots it in Final Ten Minutes: The Mountain Cats tied the contest with just under ten minutes remaining. Jaeger James found the back of the net for the fourth time this season at 81:19.
  • Dominant on the Stat Sheet: Gannon held a 21-8 advantaage in shots, including 14-6 over the final 45 minutes. The Golden Knights also had eight corner kicks to three for UPJ.
