BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – It was certainly wild and wonderful in West Virginia for the Gannon men's water polo team this weekend. The Golden Knights won three of four matches in the Salem Invitational. Along the way they clinched the number one seed in the WWPA East Region and set the record for goals scored in a match.

After splitting a pair of matches on Saturday the Golden Knights won twice on Sunday. They defeated local rival Mercyhurst 28-13, tying the record for goals in a match after setting it the day before. That was followed by a 15-11 win over Washington & Jefferson to improve to 12-9.

The news was good for the Golden Knights even before they took the pool on Sunday. Thanks to Salem's win over McKendree in the earlier match Gannon clinched the top seed in the East Region. It marks the first time head coach Zarko Sadikovic's team has earned the number one seed. Gannon is hosting the WWPA Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio on Nov. 21-23.
