ERIE, Pa. – In one of the wildest games in recent memory at McConnell Family Stadium, Gannon fell just short in a 48–46 shootout against Clarion on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights erased a 21–0 first-quarter deficit and took a late lead inside the final two minutes, but the Golden Eagles' 33-yard field goal with four seconds remaining proved to be the difference.

THE KNIGHT CAP

  • Offensive Masterpiece: The Golden Knights racked up 456 total yards, with five different receivers recording catches of 35 yards or longer. That total number is the fifth most yards in a game in program history.
  • Hurst's Homecoming: Quarterback Ty Hurst (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) was tremendous in his first game against his former school. The QB went 20-28 with 424 yards and six total touchdowns, five through the air. His passing mark is good for third in program history in a single game.
  • Mason's Monster Day: Tank Mason, back after missing last weeks game, hauled in four passes for 110 yards and three touchdowns, including an 18-yard strike from Hurst with 1:33 remaining that briefly gave Gannon a 46–45 lead. His three touchdown receptions ties a program record for most TD catches in a single game.
  • Big Plays All Around: Damario Moore (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) (3 receptions, 84 yards, 1 TD), Zaheem Crawford-Patterson (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) (61-yard TD catch), and James Faulkner (West Bloomfield Township, Mich./West Bloomfield) (90 yards on 4 receptions) all contributed explosive gains in the passing game.
  • Ground Presence: Tristen Kenan (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown and added five receptions for 27 yards
  • Defensive Grit: Cornerback Sir Giles (Kissimmee, Fla./Tohopekaliga) recorded an interception in the second quarter, while Jeremiah Lovely (Jacksonville, Fla./Andrew Jackson) and Donovan Faria (Land O'Lakes, Fla./Land O'Lakes) each registered sacks. Shamar Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) led the defense with 11 total tackles.
  • Never Say Die: Down 21-0 early in the second quarter, the Golden Knights never relented. GU had deficits of 21, 17, 16, and 10 (with 13 minutes left in the game) but managed to take a late lead before surrendering the game winning kick.
  • Wild Finish: After Mason's late touchdown put Gannon ahead, Clarion drove 49 yards in the final 90 seconds to set up Andrew Kurtas' game-winning 33-yard field goal with just four seconds on the clock. The drive was aided by a personal foul penalty that tacked on 15 yards following a play in Gannon territory.
