Golden Knights Improve to 4-0 in PSAC with Bonus Points Win at East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Gannon men's wrestling team improved to 4-0 in PSAC action with a 35-12 win at East Stroudsburg on Friday evening. The Golden Knights won seven of the ten bouts, with six coming by bonus points and the other a forfeit.

The Golden Knights, ranked 14th by the NWCA and 15th in The Open Matt rankings, have little time to celebrate the win. They head to Kutztown for a key PSAC match on Saturday at 12 noon. The Golden Bears are 7-1 and 1-1 in the PSAC. They are ranked 20th by the NWCA and 23rd by The Open Mat.

Gannon jumped out to a 14-0 lead thanks to two technical falls and a major decision. Logan Sallot (Erie, PA/McDowell High School), ranked seventh by The Open Mat and 14th by the NWCA, improved to 19-3 with a 16-1 tech fall at 4:28 in his 125 lb. bout.

Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) (17-3) took the mat next at 133 lbs. Ranked ninth and 11th, respectively, used a big third period for a 10-2 major decision. He led by a scant 1-0 margin entering the final period but recorded three takedowns to take control.

Brock Christian (Perry, Ohio/Perry) (10-7) gave the Golden Knights a 14-0 advantage with a 20-0 technical fall (4:42). East Stroudsburg got on the board with a pin at 149 lbs., but Ethan Richner (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area High) answered with a fall of his own at 157 lbs. at 2:07. Richner improved to 12-5.

Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic) lost a heartbreaker at 165 lbs. He led 5-3 in the final seconds but Anthony Lawrence came up with the winning takedown at the edge of the mat with three seconds left as Coreno lost 6-5.

Patrick Jackson (Harpers Ferry, WV/Spring Mills High) boosted Gannon's lead back to 25-8 (note ESU deducted a team point following the 165 lb. match) with a technical fall at 174 lbs. Ranked eighth by the NWCA and 11th by The Open Mat, the redshirt freshman improved to 17-5 with a technical fall 16-0 at 5:59.

East Stroudsburg won by major decision at 184 lbs., and despite the loss it clinched the dual. Eli Reese (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) put an exclamation point on the win as he improved to 9-4 with an 8-0 major decision at 197 lbs.

Daeshawn Larry (Macclenny, Fla./Baker County) made his debut, somewhat, at heavyweight. Filling in for injured Dorian Crosby (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), the football player turned wrestler won by forfeit.
