Golden Knight Grapplers Head to West Virginia for Dual with Nationally-Ranked West Liberty

ERIE, Pa. – When the 2024-25 wrestling season began Gannon men's wrestling coach Tom Boyd knew his team was going to face a very demanding schedule. So far the Golden Knights have produced a 7-3 record and is ranked 13th in The Open Mat Division II poll and 14th in the NWCA rankings.

The Golden Knights face another difficult test on Friday, January 24 wrestling at West Liberty. The match against the Hilltoppers gets underway at 6:30 p.m. West Liberty, 5-3 in duals, is ranked tenth by the NWCA and 16th by The Open Mat.

Making matters even more difficult for Boyd is the fact his lineup will likely be missing no fewer than three regular starters. Gannon will face a West Liberty lineup that showcases no fewer than five ranked wrestlers, all in the top ten. That includes Ty McGeary, the top ranked wrestler at 184 lbs.

Gannon will still send out three wrestlers appearing in the national rankings. Redshirt freshman Patrick Jackson (Harpers Ferry, WV/Spring Mills High) is the top ranked Golden Knight. He is ranked eighth by the NWCA and tenth by The Open Mat with a 16-4 record.

Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) is ranked ninth by the NWCA and tenth by The Open Mat at 133 lbs. The redshirt junior is 15-3. He earned All-American honors at 133 lbs. with a fifth-place finish at 133 lbs.

Logan Sallot (Erie, PA/McDowell High School), like Jackson a redshirt freshman transfer from Lock Haven, comes in with a 17-3 record and is ranked 12th at 125 lbs. by The Open Mat and 14th by the NWCA.

On Sunday, January 26 Gannon will send a contingent of wrestlers to the Jamestown CC Open hosted by Jamestown Community College.
