Gannon Sweeps Gannon Quad with Impressive Wins over Millersville, Fairmont State and Grand Valley State

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's wrestling team made its return to the Highmark Events Center for the first time since Feb. 11, 2023 with an impressive showing while hosting the Gannon Quad on Saturday. The Golden Knights swept their three duals by scores of 34-12 over Millersville, 43-12 over Fairmont State and 40-12 against No. 8 Grand Valley State.
 
Gannon came into the day ranked 22nd by the NWCA 12th by The Open Mat. At this time of year all of the teams were battling injuries but head coach Tom Boyd was able to take advantage of his team's depth.
 
Fourteen different wrestlers took to the mat, and that doesn't count heavyweight where the Golden Knights forfeited all three matches with top-ten ranked Dorian Crosby (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) out with an injury.
 
Four Golden Knights finished with wins in all three of their bouts – Logan Sallot (Erie, PA/McDowell High School) at 125 lbs., Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic) at 165 lbs., Patrick Jackson (Harpers Ferry, WV/Spring Mills High) at 174 lbs. and Eli Reese (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) at 197 lbs. Reese won twice bv falls along with a technical fall, while Jackson had two falls and a major decision. Sallot won twice by pin and may have had the best match of the day when he defeated Orion Wilson of Grand Valley State 12-6 in his third bout of the day.
 
All told Gannon of the 26 matches Gannon wrestled 11 ended with pins, six by technical falls and three by major decision. The Golden Knights allowed just six takedowns all day.
 
The three wins leave Gannon at 7-3 overall and 3-0 now in the PSAC with the Millersville match counting for this year's conference meeting. Gannon will be back in action on Friday, January 24 wrestling at West Liberty. In addition, a contingent of Golden Knights will be competing on Sunday in the Purple Raider Open.
