Gannon Celebrates Senior Night with 37-3 Win over Seton Hill

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's wrestling team improved to 2-0 in the PSAC and is now 4-3 overall following a 37-3 win over Seton Hill on Saturday night. The match took place at the Recreation and Wellness Center. Seton Hill dropped to 6-6 and 0-2 in the PSAC.
 
Prior to the match Gannon recognized nine seniors as part of Senior Night festivities. They included: Hayden Butterfield, Caleb Chaves (Odenton, Md./Arundel), Collin Clough, Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic), Dorian Crosby (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Carson Filer (Mercer, Pa./Mercer Area), Dylan Mayer, Chase McLaughlin (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown Area), and Chris Petteys.

The Golden Knights dominated the Griffins for the third year in a row, picking up bonus points in five matches. Seton Hill's lone win was a decision at 157 lbs., snapping a streak of wins in 22 consecutive bouts for the Golden Knights dating back to 2022-23.
 
The match started with Gannon winning two of the first three bouts by identical 7-6 scores. Logan Sallot (Erie, PA/McDowell High School), ranked 12th by The Open Mat, opened the night with a 7-6 decision over Don Lindsey at 125 lbs. Sallot trailed 3-1 entering the final period but used a pair of third period takedowns to improve to 14-3.
 
Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach), ranked 11th by the NWCA and 12th by The Open Mat, followed with a 9-0 major decision at 133 lbs. to boost his record to 13-3. Caleb Chaves (Odenton, Md./Arundel) got the call at 141 lbs. and improved to 2-1 with a 7-6 decision over Niko Ferra thanks to takedowns in the first and second period.
 
Tenth-ranked Kenny Kiser (Meadville, Pa./Saegertown) improved to 8-2 with one of three technical falls for the Golden Knights, prevailing 16-1 at 4:06. Kiser led 11-0 after one period. Seton Hill got on the board as Mike Zacur decisioned Ethan Richner (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area High), 6-2, but Gannon finished the dual with five straight wins.
 
Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic) (8-7) snapped a personal losing streak with a 6-0 decision at 165 lbs. he scored all five of his points in the second period and earned the riding time point.
 
Redshirt freshman Patrick Jackson (Harpers Ferry, WV/Spring Mills High) continued his impressive season with technical fall at 174 lbs.  Ranked seventh by the NWCA and 11th by The Open Mat, Jackson won 15-0 at 4:42 and is now 13-4.
 
Shane Davidson (Almond, N.Y./Wellsville) made his return to the starting lineup at 184 lbs. on Saturday and claimed a 2-0 decision over Camryn Higgins. He accounted for the lone points with a second-period reversal.
 
Eli Reese (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) and Dorian Crosby (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) capped the night with bonus point wins at 197 lbs. and heavyweight. Reese, now 4-4, won 15-0 at 4:35, taking a 7-0 lead after one period and then pulling away with eight more in the third.
 
Crosby showed why he is ranked sixth by The Open Mat and eighth by the NWCA. He needed just 26 seconds to win by fall as he improved to 18-3.
 
Gannon returns to action on Saturday, January 11 hosting the Gannon Quad. The Golden Knights will face Millersville in a PSAC match before wrestling Fairmont State and Grand Valley State. The wrestling gets underway at 12 noon with the match taking place at the newly-renovated Highmark Events Center.
