Gannon uses hot 3-point shooting to down Seattle Pacific for 2nd straight win

Bri Claxon scores 19 points and Carissa Dunham hits 5 3-pointers for GU

LANGLEY TOWNSHIP, British Columbia, Canada – This time, the Golden Knights left no doubt.

The No. 11-ranked Gannon women's basketball team had a big second quarter Saturday to take a 15-point halftime lead and was in control the rest of the way as the Knights beat Seattle Pacific 82-60 on the second day of the Canadian Tip-Off Classic.
 
Seattle Pacific led 14-11 after the first quarter before Gannon dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Falcons 26-8 to take a 37-22 halftime lead.
 
Coach Cleve Wright's Gannon team led 56-35 after three quarters as GU protected the lead throughout the fourth quarter. On Friday, Gannon led by 25 points going into the fourth period before being forced to hold on for a 72-67 victory over Dominican (Calif.).
 
 
By the numbers:
 
Gannon shot 42.9 percent from 3-point range on Saturday, connecting on 12-of-28 attempts. GU went 6-of-10 from 3-point range in the second quarter when the Golden Knights pulled away. They made 3-of-4 from long range in the third quarter as they went 9-of-14 from 3-point territory in the middle two quarters.
 
Junior shooting guard Bri Claxon (South Webster, Ohio/South Webster) paced GU with 19 points as she made 3-of-5 on 3-point attempts. Another junior shooting guard, Carissa Dunham (Fairview, Pa./Villa Maria), scored 15 points – all of them coming on 3-pointers. She finished 5-of-10 from 3-point land.
 
Sophomore post player Andrea Maibach (Creston, Ohio/Norwayne) and sophomore shooting guard Kate Ratliff (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Canal Winchester) both scored 14 points while sinking one 3-pointer. Junior shooting guard Maddy Wheatley (Canberra, Australia/UCSSC Lake Ginninderra) connected of 2-of-3 3-pointers and finished with eight points. Wheatley also led Gannon with seven rebounds.
 
Gannon shot 81.8 percent from the free-throw line, making 18-of-22. Claxon made all 6 of her foul shots.
 
 
What's ahead:
 
Gannon will close play in the Canadian Tip-Off on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. when the Knights meet St. Edward (Texas). St. Edward's lost to host school Simon Fraser 78-62 on Friday and lost 70-57 to No. 4 Tampa on Saturday.
